Types Of Trolleys Used In Supermarkets

Efficient supermarket operations rely on the use of trolleys to ensure smooth shopping experiences for customers. Trolleys serve not only as a convenience for shoppers but also as a valuable tool for employees. Without it, it would be much more difficult and time-consuming to restock shelves and transport goods around the supermarket. Here are the types of trolleys frequently found in supermarkets.

Customer Trolleys

The intent of shopping varies from customer to customer. Some customers buy a month’s worth of products, whereas others need just a few items. Regardless of the type of customer, they all require a trolley for their shopping needs. Customer trolleys are designed to meet the varying needs of these customers and come in different shapes and sizes, including both single-level and double-level trolleys. Here are a few common customer trolleys:

A Basket Trolley

A basket trolley is a lightweight, flat-shelf trolley that is ideal for small supermarkets as it allows customers to easily move their items around the store. The basket trolley is often used for quick trips or for carrying lighter items such as fruit and vegetables, bread, and drinks. We at Reef Castor, for example, manufacture a 2 tier basket trolley and a 3 tier basket trolley.

A Supermarket Trolley

The supermarket trolley is the most commonly used trolley. Capacity available: 140 litres, 210 litres and 240 litres –  it is larger and heavier than the basket trolley and can carry much more weight and a greater number of items. It has one level of high-quality steel wire shelving and tubing and a comfortable handle for customers to use. It is usually found near the entrance of the supermarket, ready for shoppers to pick up.

A Super Shopper Trolley

Super shopper trolleys are larger, more robust versions of the standard supermarket trolley. They are generally used for carrying heavier and bulkier items, such as large packs of soft drinks or toilet paper. The super shopper trolley has two levels of steel wire shelving to provide extra storage space and can hold up to 120 litres and 160 litres in weight.

A Kiddies Trolley

This trolley is specifically designed for customers who bring along their kids. A kiddies trolley is smaller in size and has a child-friendly design, with lower shelves and rounded edges. This type of trolley is especially convenient for parents who want their kids to join them on shopping trips.

Stock Trolleys

Transporting goods from the delivery dock to the shelves is often a difficult task. To simplify this process, employees use certain trolleys for transporting items from one place to another. Here are a few types of trolleys that are used for this purpose:

A Bread Trolley

Loaves of bread can be quite tricky to transport as it can damage easily. Bread trolleys are specifically designed to carry loaves of bread from one place to another. It has a wide, flat surface and two low rails that prevent the bread from toppling over as it is moved. The bread trolley can also be used as a bread stand to display the products to customers. 5 and 7 Tier bread stands are most commonly used.

An Egg Trolley

Egg trolleys are utilised to transport fragile egg cartons from the delivery dock to shelves. This trolley features three sides and two low rails designed to prevent eggs from toppling over. A common amount of capacity for an egg trolley is usually 360 dozen eggs. We manufacture two types of egg trolleys, one that is solid and welded, the other is completely knocked down and fixed with bolts and nuts making it easier to transport and assemble on site.

Liquor Trolley

Liquor trolleys can be used in supermarkets as well as liquor stores. The trolley is designed with a suspended platform that helps to keep liquor bottles safe as they are transported from one place to the other. A liquor trolley has two tiers; the bottom one is flat, while the top one has two low rails to keep an even amount of bottles stacked up.

Security Stock Trolley

A security stock trolley is a trolley designed to lock up and transport valuable items or items that are not yet ready to be displayed on the shelves. It features a steel-wired cabinet, with one door on the front that locks shut for security.
